Adif has awarded a €7.65 million contract for the construction of a new access track to the Fuencarral railway complex in Madrid, aimed at enhancing operations and network connectivity.

The scheme will double the existing access towards Chamartín, currently constrained to a single loop line near the station, by delivering a new parallel track directly connected to the main lines of Line 102 (Chamartín–Bifurcación Aranda), used by Madrid Cercanías C-4 services. A secondary access already exists via the orbital line towards Fuente de la Mora.

The new link will shorten routing distances and streamline the movement of rolling stock and maintenance equipment to Renfe workshops and Adif’s future maintenance base.

The contract also covers renewal of the existing track, installation of six sets of points, and catenary adjustments using semi-portals. It further includes the demolition of Adif’s Chamartín maintenance base and the relocation of equipment to Fuencarral.

The new Adif maintenance facility at Fuencarral will replace the current Chamartín base, whose site will be repurposed for the station’s expansion. The project carries an estimated cost of around €13 million and may be co-financed through ERDF funds.
