Adif has launched a €6,136,133.7 tender to refurbish five stations on Line 516 Mérida–Los Rosales, linking Extremadura with Sevilla via Zafra.

Works will be carried out at Usagre-Bienvenida (Badajoz) and at Guadalcanal, Cazalla-Constantina, El Pedroso and Villanueva del Río y Minas (Sevilla).

The contract covers full infrastructure renewal at these locations, including the construction and enhancement of passing loops, replacement of turnouts and life-expired assets with higher-performance components, and renewal of ballast, rail and sleepers. Interventions also include drainage works, formation upgrades and level crossings, alongside improvements to safety systems and platform-to-platform access.

The scheme aims to enhance operational safety, reliability and timetable robustness, reduce incidents and optimise maintenance costs, while improving operating conditions.

This tender forms part of the comprehensive renewal of the Mérida–Los Rosales corridor, for which Adif is allocating close to €138 million. Works already completed include track renewals in Badajoz and Sevilla, deployment of GSM-R, replacement of telephone block with remotely controlled automatic signalling, and upgrades to structures such as the Rivera del Huesna bridge.
