dif is to restore services on 30 April across the entire high-speed line 030 (Bifurcación Málaga to Málaga), which has been suspended since 4 February following a landslide at Álora that destroyed a retaining wall.
This closure compounds the earlier severance of the Villanueva de Córdoba–Córdoba section of line 010 (Madrid–Seville) on 18 January, resulting from the Adamuz accident.
A major engineering intervention to restore safe operations
The line was closed on 4 February 2026 after torrential rainfall triggered a slip of more than 200,000 m³ of earth and caused the collapse of 300 metres of retaining wall at Álora (Málaga).
The proximity of a high-voltage power line added further complexity to the works, necessitating an intervention plan to ensure safety.
Adif was required to partially demolish the retaining wall — approximately 15 metres in height — and re-grade the hillside before reinstating the railway infrastructure.
Concurrently, some 25 machines and up to 75 operatives have been deployed, working around-the-clock shifts. With those phases now complete, current works are focused on reinstating the overhead line equipment (OLE), track, pointwork and signalling systems.
Reopening ahead of the May bank holiday
Services will be restored on 30 April at 12:00, subject to no unforeseen circumstances arising.
The reopening comes just ahead of the May bank holiday, easing the travel outlook during one of the busiest periods of the year for rail demand. Throughout the closure, only Renfe has operated between Madrid and Málaga.
