Renfe has taken a significant step in the digitalisation of fleet maintenance, replacing scheduled manual inspections with continuous condition monitoring. The CBM system relies on CAF’s LeadMind and Talgo’s TSMART platforms, which analyse critical parameters in real time using predictive analytics — automatically verifying diesel oil levels and continuously monitoring high-speed train air-conditioning systems.
Validated against ISO 17359 on CAF’s Class 599 and Talgo’s Class 112, the system achieved 96.7% reliability in automated component assessment and cut maintenance task times by 93%.
The approach will be rolled out to new fleets: Classes 452 (Alstom) and 453 (Stadler) will incorporate CBM from entry into service. Renfe’s Integrated Workshops and Maintenance Plan 2025–2030 envisages adapting depot facilities accordingly.
Benefits include improved commercial availability, lower operating costs, enhanced passenger comfort, and a reduced environmental footprint. Alstom estimates the methodology cuts maintenance expenditure by 30%.
