The International Association of Public Transport (UITP) has announced the cancellation of its 2026 Global Public Transport Summit, originally planned for 21–23 April in Dubai. The decision stems from the volatile situation in the Gulf region following the outbreak of war involving Iran and its impact on international travel.

The organisation stated that the safety and wellbeing of delegates, partners, and staff remain its highest priority. It added that the decision was made following recommendations from several national authorities advising against non-essential travel to the area.

UITP also underlined its close cooperation with its 2026 host, the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), expressing gratitude for its efforts and understanding in the face of the cancellation.

Despite the suspension, UITP will continue to engage and collaborate with its members worldwide, exploring alternative formats to share content, encourage professional exchange, and maintain interaction throughout the sector.

The next UITP Global Summit will be held in Hamburg in 2027.
