French manufacturer Alstom has completed the manufacture of the first carbody for the future Line 7 of the Santiago Metro at its Taubaté plant in São Paulo, Brazil.

This milestone is an essential step in the contract signed between Alstom and Metro de Santiago, which includes the delivery of 37 Metropolis trains, each consisting of five cars, as well as the supply of the Urbalis CBTC signalling system and a 20-year maintenance contract.

The new trains, constructed from stainless steel, will have a service life exceeding 40 years and offer a substantial reduction in energy consumption. They will have a capacity of up to 1,250 passengers, wide doors, spacious corridors and air conditioning. They will also incorporate an advanced passenger information system, USB ports, high-resolution cameras and intercoms that will connect directly to the control centre.
