On Monday, the Community of Madrid began working on the extension of Metro Line 5, which will connect Alameda de Osuna with terminals T1, T2, and T3 at Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport.
The works, awarded in February, involve an investment of 181 million euros and a completion period of 36 months. The new section is scheduled to enter service in 2028, four years later than initially announced.
The new station, which will be built next to the current one, will have a central space of almost 20,000 m3, five accesses, and a 1,630-square-metre glass roof, allowing natural light and views of the airport. It will also have four fixed stairways, nine escalators, and high standards of accessibility and safety.

The tunnel will be 1.7 km long, built using the Belgian or traditional Madrid method, and the cut-and-cover method.
The extension will benefit over 66 million annual users and the airport’s 40,000 workers. The project is 40% financed by European funds.
