Work on the third section of Line 3 of the Seville metro officially began this morning. This subsection, awarded for 173.4 million euros, is the most complex and costly of the entire line due to its layout and the construction of the Hospital Virgen Macarena station. It will serve as an interchange with the future Line 4 and will be located 20 metres below ground level, under the hospital’s underground car park.
This section’s route, 1,013 metres long, starts on Avenida Doctor Fedriani, next to the intersection with San Lázaro, and runs along Avenida Doctor Fedriani and Calle San Juan de Ribera, ending at the intersection with Calle Muñoz León on the Ronda Histórica.
The construction method will be mainly cut-and-cover, except under the hospital, where the mine tunnelling method will go beneath the existing car park.
Line 3 North, co-financed 50% by the central government and the Junta de Andalucía, will connect Pino Montano with Prado de San Sebastián, adding 12 stations and serving densely populated areas and four primary health centres in the city.
