The railway tunneling in Langreo enters into service

.

After more than a decade of work, the new underground route of line 752 Gijón-Laviana is now in service in the municipality of Langreo.

Adif executed the project, which involved an investment of 43 million euros and eliminated part of the surface route in Langreo with a 3.3-kilometre tunnel. In addition, the C-5 Gijón-Laviana suburban line will have six new semi-direct services, saving up to 27 minutes on some journeys.

The inaugural journey, held yesterday, was attended by the Regional Minister for Mobility of the Principality, the Government Delegate, the Mayor of Langreo and the presidents of Renfe and Adif. The route included stops at the new stations of Sama Los Llerones and La Felguera Nuevo Langreo/Nuevu Llangréu, both adapted for people with reduced mobility.

The line’s renovation has improved the track’s quality. New signalling systems have been installed, and the platforms at several stations have been modernised. The daily service has been increased by more than 20%, with 34 trains running from Monday to Friday, of which 12 will be semi-direct.

These improvements, partly financed by European NextGenerationEU funds, are part of the Asturias Suburban Railway Plan, which foresees a total investment of 1,451 million euros in infrastructure.
