The Port Authority of Gijón, ADIF and Puertos del Estado have agreed on a collaboration plan to promote rail intermodality and improve the connectivity of the port of El Musel with the Meseta and the main production centres.

The pact, sealed in a meeting in Madrid between the port president, Nieves Roqueñí; the president of ADIF, Pedro Marco de la Peña; and the president of Puertos del Estado, Gustavo Santana; contemplates increasing the number of trains with origin and destination in the port facilities and favouring improvements in the railway accesses to the Gijón enclave.

El Musel considers it a priority to promote rail transport and capitalise on the opportunities presented by the opening of the Pajares bypass.

The port will conduct studies to optimise intermodality. At the same time, ADIF will review the access points to establish, from autumn, the instruments of collaboration that will formalise the actions to be undertaken between all the institutions.

The Port Authority stresses its firm commitment to more efficient and sustainable transport.
