Stadler has unveiled its new 4-axle locomotive platform, the EURO DuFour, at the Munich Transport Logistic 2025 trade fair. Developed in Valencia, it is designed to compete directly with established models such as Siemens’ Vectron or Alstom’s Traxx.
This new family stands out for its modularity, greater power, versatility, and reduced weight, which allows it to access category C (C2/C3/C4) railway lines. Its base weight will be only 80 tonnes, which can be increased to 90 tonnes if it incorporates the battery module.

The EURO DuFour is part of an initial order of up to 129 units for SBB Cargo and will be available in pure electric versions for 1.5 kV DC, 3 kV DC, 1.5 kV 16/3 Hz AC, and 25 kV 50 Hz AC electrifications; bimodal with a diesel generator and bimodal with batteries.
The maximum power will be 1,000 kW in diesel mode, 2,000 kW in battery mode, and 7,000 kW in AC electric mode. The starting tractive effort reaches 350 kN.
DuFour pays homage to Switzerland’s highest peak, the Dufourspitze, and plays on the number four, alluding to the locomotive’s axles. The initial launch will cover the German, Austrian and Swiss markets.
