Siemens Mobility opens expansion of Munich-Allach site

.

German rolling stock manufacturer Siemens Mobility has inaugurated the expansion of its train plant in Munich-Allach, already considered one of the most advanced rail production facilities in Europe.

The company has invested 250 million euros since 2023 in new facilities, cutting-edge technologies and artificial intelligence-based solutions, consolidating its commitment to Germany as a technological benchmark.

The expansion has doubled the floor space to more than 100,000 m² and will enable the production of up to 385 Vectron locomotives and 180 passenger cars annually. The manufacturer stresses that, for the first time, all products based on Vectron technology will be produced under one roof.

Additionally, the plant will serve as the new headquarters of Siemens Mobility, integrating key areas such as research and development, production, services, and management.

The railway maintenance centre will triple its capacity by 2026, being able to carry out up to 80 locomotive overhauls and repairs per year. The expansion will create more than 500 new jobs, bringing the workforce to over 2,500 by 2028, primarily in technical areas such as welding, metallurgy, mechatronics, and electrical engineering.

The Munich-Allach site, established by Krauss-Maffei in the 1930s, has since become a global centre of competence, innovation, and rail services.
