On 2 July, a new phase of the ‘4+4+2’ works will begin at Atocha Cercanías station, which will mean service disruption on Cercanías Madrid C-3, C-4 and C-5 lines.
Line C-5 between Embajadores and Villaverde Alto will be interrupted between 2 and 30 July. From 19 July to 30 August, traffic will be interrupted in the Sol tunnel, affecting lines C-3 and C-4 between Chamartín and Atocha. During this period, the Sol station will be closed.
Renfe will reinforce the service with 20,000 additional seats per day on lines C-4 and C-10 at peak times and set up reserve trains at Villaverde Alto to cater for possible increases in passenger numbers. In addition, customer service staff will provide information on transport alternatives, highlighting the possibility of using several EMT lines at no additional cost for users with a Renfe&tú card.
These actions, which are part of the Madrid Cercanías Plan and represent an investment of 54 million euros, seek to improve Atocha’s capacity and reliability.
When the works are completed, Atocha will have a 4+4+2 track layout: tracks 1 to 4 for the Recoletos tunnel, 4 to 8 for the Sol tunnel, and tracks 9 and 10 for the C-5.
