Rodalies de Catalunya creation agreement presented

.

The Secretary of State for Transport and Sustainable Mobility, José Antonio Santano, and the Catalan Minister of Territory, Housing and Ecological Transition, Sílvia Paneque, today presented the agreement for the creation of the new mixed company Rodalies de Catalunya, which will take over the management of suburban and regional services in Catalonia.

The new company, Rodalies de Catalunya S.M.E., S.A., will be 49.9% owned by the Generalitat de Catalunya and 50.1% by Renfe Viajeros, integrated into the Renfe group and with an initial capital of two million euros.

In this way, it is considered a subsidiary of the state operator. At the same time, the casting vote of the board’s chairman, elected at the regional government’s proposal, will give more weight to the Generalitat on the board of directors.

Santano described the company’s constitution as “a historic milestone” and underlined the fulfilment of the Statute of Autonomy, highlighting the improvement in the quality and punctuality of the service.

For his part, Paneque pointed out that this is “a great triumph for Catalonia” and a historic demand to strengthen governance and service quality.

The company is expected to be incorporated before the end of the year and to start operations in 2026.
