Renfe will increase the journey time between Asturias and Madrid from June 16th to July 6th, due to the track doubling works that Adif is carrying out on line 084, LAV Venta de Baños-León.
These works will complete the line, which was partially inaugurated in single track to save costs, although with the trackbed prepared to install the second track when the railway traffic required it.
The phase beginning in mid-June will require the cutting of track 2 between Bifurcación Vilecha and the southern end of León station, which will affect the Vilecha gauge changer.

During these works, it will be necessary to use the León Classification gauge changeover, which requires entering the new station in a sack-bottom position and reversing gears. As a result, travel time between Madrid and Asturias will increase by an average of 12 minutes.
The works, carried out by Adif with an investment of 153 million euros, will double the track by 41.5 km in order to increase the capacity and fluidity of train traffic. This action will benefit those travelling from Asturias and León to the south.
