Pecovasa, a Renfe subsidiary specialising in road vehicle transport by rail, has launched a new system of IoT devices that enables real-time geolocation of its vehicle-carrying wagons.
This innovation, with a budget of around 590,000 euros, is financed by European Next Generation funds.
The system, which combines geo-positioning sensors, a new application and artificial intelligence, makes it easier for customers to track goods and trace vehicles in real time.

It also streamlines terminal management by identifying the exact location of wagons and improves maintenance plan control by recording kilometres travelled.
This technology also collects statistical data that is useful for monitoring and predictive analytics programmes.
The installed devices, custom-designed to withstand the operating conditions, allow information such as GPS coordinates, temperature, humidity and accelerometer data to be sent.
The application developed by Pecovasa facilitates visualising routes, dates of departure and arrival, and vehicle locations by entering the chassis number.
The new system manages more than 25,000 vehicles and 350 connected wagons monthly, enhancing productivity and service quality for the company’s main customers.
