The Community of Madrid is to allocate an additional 81 million euros to increase the order of trains for line 6 of the Madrid metro by 8 units.

With this extension of the contract, whose purchase option was already contemplated in the tender, the line’s rolling stock will consist of 48 trains with automatic driving in GoA 4. The investment in the new trains will amount to 531.2 million euros.

The major innovation of these trains will be the absence of a driver’s cab. They will be the first on the Madrid metro network to incorporate this feature, following the example of other networks such as Barcelona, Santiago de Chile and Paris.

These trains are being made by CAF. They will go as fast as 110 km/h, the same speed as the 8000-2ª trains that are already on the line. However, at present, the infrastructure prevents them from reaching them, although Metro de Madrid assures that the works currently underway will make this possible.

Unlike most recent trains on the Madrid metro, which have Bombardier (now Alstom) traction, the new trains on line 6 will be fitted with Mitsubishi equipment. The composition will also change from M-R-S-S-S-R-M to M-S-S-S-S-S-S-M.
