The President of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, has announced that line 7B of the Madrid metro, known as MetroEste, will reopen in its entirety at the end of November. This will restore the service to the Hospital del Henares station.
The section had been closed since August 2022, the eighth closure of the Hospital del Henares station since its inauguration due to ground instability problems.
The reopening will be possible after completion of the consolidation, waterproofing and drainage works of the tunnel, as well as the monitoring and repair works foreseen in the Integral Plan of Actions in San Fernando de Henares.
This, after injecting 13,000 tonnes of mortar into the ground, will re-establish the connection for 120,000 users who use this line inaugurated in 2007.
Isabel Díaz Ayuso, president of the Regional Community, stressed that these works guarantee the safety of the infrastructure and announced that a 12,000 square metre urban park will be built in the area where the houses were demolished.
The Community has invested more than 120 million euros in the rehabilitation of the line and in compensation for affected residents and traders, to which more than 11.5 million euros have already been allocated.
The regional executive assures that since February 2023 there have been no movements in the ground, which confirms the stability of the soil and allows the reopening with all the guarantees.
