The first World Tram Driver Championship takes place today, 13 September, on Vienna’s Rathausplatz, bringing together 25 teams of tram drivers from all over the world.
This competition is the evolution of the traditional European Championship, which started in 2012 in Dresden.
The competition can be followed live on YouTube via the official Tram-WM channel or the video below. Spectators can also attend the event in the centre of Vienna free of charge.

The championship consists of eight disciplines in which drivers will have to show their expertise. These include precision braking, giant tram bowling and transporting water containers. Teams compete in two rounds: from 11:00 to 13:30 and from 14:30 to 16:30.
Spain is represented by two teams. On the one hand, the Barcelona team, made up of drivers Gemma Capdevila and Fermín Ortega. Also participating is the Metrotenerife team, formed by Marco Perdomo and Sonia Youssef, who will compete alongside teams from cities such as San Diego, Rio de Janeiro, Melbourne and Hong Kong.
At the last edition of the European Championship 2024 in Frankfurt am Main, the team from Budapest, Hungary, won, beating 26 participating teams in this competition that rewards the precision and control of these public transport vehicles.
