The Board of Directors of Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat Valenciana (FGV) has approved the transfer of six cars of the emblematic “Limón Exprés” to the Ponfeblino Consortium. These cars will become part of the heritage of the tourist train from Bierzo.
The PP’s spokesman in the Regional Council of Bierzo, José Manuel Pereira, has welcomed the news, stressing that this incorporation “gives a real boost to the Ponfeblino” and thanking the Ministry of Mobility of the Junta de Castilla y León for its decisive role in materialising the transfer.
The Ponfeblino project, which aims to recover the historic Ponferrada-Villablino railway line, is progressing steadily.
It recently received an injection of four million euros from the Just Transition funds, earmarked for the recovery of the infrastructure, the acquisition of rolling stock, and the contracting of technical services to start up the tourist train between Cubillos del Sil and Villablino, with a view to reaching Ponferrada in the future.
This initiative, practically a pioneer in Spain, seeks to transform the old mining road into an engine of tourist, cultural, and economic development for El Bierzo and Laciana, rescuing the region’s industrial legacy and offering visitors a unique experience.
