Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC) has awarded Stadler Rail Valencia the contract for the construction, supply, and maintenance of seven electric trams that will run on the new Camp de Tarragona tramway, on the section between Cambrils and Vila-seca.
The contract, valued at 59.7 million euros (excluding VAT), includes full maintenance of the vehicles for fifteen years and is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
The trams will have a capacity for 211 passengers. They will be adapted for people with reduced mobility, featuring multifunctional areas and an energy storage system that will enable them to run without a catenary on certain sections. They will also incorporate real-time tracking technology to inform users of their location.
This project is part of the first phase of the new tram network, which will connect Reus and Tarragona through 46 kilometres and 47 stations, serving hospitals, universities, leisure areas and the industrial sector.
Work on the first phase, which spans 14 kilometres between Cambrils, Salou, and Vila-seca and includes fourteen stops, has already been awarded a contract worth 15.8 million euros and is expected to be operational in the first quarter of 2028.
