Adif has awarded a 5.3 million Euro contract to draft projects for the complete renovation of 112 kilometres of the Cercanías network in Asturias.
The actions will focus on the metric gauge sections Cudillero-Pravia-Gijón (line C4) and San Esteban de Pravia-Pravia-Trubia (line C7).
The estimated investment for the future works exceeds 50 million euros and will include the renewal of the track, electrification, and improvement of elements such as tunnels, overpasses, and signalling systems.
In addition, hydrological studies are envisaged to adapt infrastructures to flood zones and rearrange tracks in stations to increase operability.
These improvements are part of the Asturias Suburban Railway Plan, which already has all its metric gauge line renovations in the project or execution phase. The European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) may co-finance the action.
The plan includes renovations in the lines Gijón-Laviana, Colloto-Infiesto, Trubia-Collanzo, track duplications in Sotiello-La Florida and La Carrera-Pola de Siero, improvements in signalling, electrification, and removal of level crossings, with investments of more than 1,400 million euros.
