Adif has completed the construction of the new 1.9-kilometre-long Oural tunnel on the Monforte de Lemos-Lugo section of the 800 León-La Coruña line. The infrastructure, which will come into service on September 23rd, has been built parallel to the existing tunnel, which will be converted into an evacuation gallery.
The project is part of the complete renovation of the line, which will be connected to the high-speed network in Orense via line 810 Monforte de Lemos-Redondela.
The projects cost a total of 626 million euros, of which 507 million have already been spent. They include electrifying the Monforte & Lugo section, adapting the gauges in tunnels, updating stations, and improving the signalling and communication systems.
Between 20 and 22 September, work will be carried out to connect the new tunnel to the network, including a self-protection drill. During these days, Renfe will set up an alternative transport plan with 22 buses for medium and long-distance routes.
The project is funded by the European Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan under the NextGenerationEU programme.
