Adif has put out to tender, for 5.7 million Euro, the works to build a new maintenance base for the metric gauge railway network in El Berrón, in the municipality of Siero.
This infrastructure will bring together in a single site all the facilities and technical and human equipment necessary for the conservation of the network, currently dispersed in different locations in the locality.
The new base, which according to Adif will be equipped with the most advanced means, will increase efficiency and optimise maintenance tasks on lines C5 (Laviana-Gijón) and C6 (Oviedo-Infiesto) of the Asturias local train network.
The complex will consist of three interconnected modules and a development area, located next to El Berrón station, with direct access to the tracks to speed up the intervention of the teams.
Furthermore, El Berrón reinforces its role as the nerve centre of the Asturian railway network, as it will also house a renovated Multi-network Circulation Regulation Centre from 2024. The new base will have a train workshop for track machinery, a warehouse, a depot, a maintenance pit and rooms for about 150 workers.
