Transfesa Logistics completed in October the incorporation of 200 car carrier wagons in 1,435 mm gauge, acquired thanks to the European Next Generation EU funds.
The arrival of the last 100 wagons marks the conclusion of a fleet renewal process strengthening the development of the Mediterranean Corridor on international gauge, a key infrastructure connecting Spain with the rest of Europe by rail.
According to Samuel Nevado, Transport Director of the Transfesa Group, the completion of the project represents “a firm step towards more sustainable and competitive transport,” consolidating the company’s role as a leader in intermodal logistics.
The new wagons, Laaers type and manufactured by Tatravagónka, are double-type with 4 axles. Each wagon is 31 m long. The height-adjustable upper deck allows transportation of various vehicle types, including electric cars, vans, and small trucks.
The project is funded by the European NextGeneration EU programme, within the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility’s Support Plan for Sustainable and Digital Transport, aimed at decarbonising and digitalising the rail freight sector.
