The Spanish Council of Ministers authorised this Tuesday the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility to sign an agreement with the Generalitat of Catalonia and Adif to build two railway interchanges between the national and regional networks.

One will be located at the Hospital General station, serving lines S1 and S7, and the other at Volpelleres station, serving lines S2 and S6 of Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat.

The project will have a total investment of 36 million euros. The Ministry will contribute 20 million euros for the construction works, which will be carried out by the Generalitat, in addition to one million euros more for technical studies. Adif will invest a further 15 million euros for complementary actions.

These infrastructures will connect with the R8 line of Rodalies, which links Martorell and Granollers without passing through Barcelona, thereby improving the functionality of the rail axis that underpins the Baix Llobregat, Vallès Occidental, and Vallès Oriental regions.

The agreement continues the protocol signed in 2023 by both administrations, which established cooperation to strengthen the intermodality of the Catalan rail system.
