Swiss Federal Railways (SBB-CFF-FFS) has reviewed the first year of body-worn camera operations by the Transport Police, reporting positive results. According to the company, the devices have helped de-escalate conflicts and secure crucial evidence.
The railway operator stresses that the safety of both passengers and staff remains a top priority. Data show that assaults on Transport Police officers fell by 11% compared with the previous year. Although incidents of harassment and threats rose during summer, the activation of bodycams—687 times in total—helped to calm numerous confrontations. In almost half of the cases, simply announcing that recording had started was enough to defuse tensions.
In 202 cases, footage served as evidence, and 32 recordings were submitted to judicial authorities. Nine out of ten officers described the bodycam as a useful operational tool.

In light of these findings, SBB plans to trial the use of body-worn cameras among customer service staff, subject to legal and data protection checks. At the same time, the company will continue to strengthen police presence on the network, enhance de-escalation training, and expand CCTV coverage on trains and at stations.
