atalonia’s public rail operator FGC has started the certification process on the RFIG for its new Class 312 units (431.2 series under the RFIG), part of Stadler’s FLIRT family built in Albuixech.
The four-unit fleet, ordered in 2021, will be used by the company to take over Rodalia services in Lleida on the RL3 (Lleida–Cervera) and RL4 (Lleida–Terrassa) lines from Renfe.
The first set was unveiled on 20 September at the Pla de Vilanoveta depot and is now undergoing homologation to clear the type for entry into service. Freight operator Captrain, a subsidiary of SNCF, is involved in the trials, and FGC expects completion by summer 2026.

Similar to Stadler’s treatment of Renfe’s third Class 453 unit, this train has been covered in white vinyl to guard against graffiti.
Each electric three-car train can accommodate 439 passengers, including 164 seated. The units are step-free, suitable for reduced mobility users, and fitted with the latest Passenger Information Systems (SIV).
Meanwhile, the Pla de Vilanoveta facilities will be expanded to include a new control centre, driver simulators, and upgraded maintenance and washing facilities.
Certification will proceed in parallel with that of the Class 311 (431.0) fleet, which FGC will deploy on Barcelona’s airport line.
