Adif has awarded, for 2.2 million Euro, the contract for the drafting of studies and projects for the urban integration of the railway in Jaén on line 402, Espeluy-Jaén.
The state-owned engineering firm Ineco will be responsible for analysing actions to improve railway permeability by means of the construction of three pedestrian platforms, mixed pedestrian and vehicle crossings and the renovation of the area between the station and Arjona Avenue.
This integration follows Óscar Puente’s mandate to stop building underground and puts an end to the idea of taking the station out of the city centre.

The actions include the complete modernisation of the station, expansion and optimisation of its facilities, and the study of an adjacent bus terminal, favouring intermodality and more sustainable mobility in the city. In addition, the duplication and redistribution of the tracks in the two kilometres before the terminal is contemplated. The aim is to increase railway capacity and functionality.
The initiative is in addition to the current works underway to redevelop the station’s surroundings, with an investment of four million Euro, and other projects such as the improvement of the connection with the Córdoba-Jaén corridor and the adaptation of the line for Autopista Ferroviaria services.
The project could benefit from European funding through the ERDF.
