Spanish manufacturer CAF has strengthened its presence in the French market after winning two new contracts worth more than 300 million euros.

The first of the agreements has been signed with the Syndicat Mixte des Mobilités de l’Aire Grenobloise (SMMAG), which has commissioned CAF to supply 38 Urbos trams for Grenoble. The contract includes an option for nine additional units.

These trams, which will begin to replace the current fleet from 2028, will be 100% low-floor and offer 281 seats, 82 of them seated. They will be air-conditioned and have 12 double doors. They will be manufactured at the Bagnères-de-Bigorre plant.

The second contract is for the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region, which has ordered 14 Coradia Polyvalent trains. Of these, 5 will be electric trains for Intercités services, consisting of six cars and with a seating capacity of 355. The other 9 will be bi-modal for the TER service. They will have 4 cars and offer 229 seating places.

CAF will be responsible for the design and manufacture of these units at the Reichshoffen plant, while Alstom will supply part of the equipment, under the agreement signed after the transfer of this platform to CAF.
